France has agreed to start stopping migrant vessels in the English Channel, following an extended period of insistence from the UK.
The change in policy comes after the British leader wrote to the President urging him to back the initiative and stating there currently "lack any effective preventive measure" in the Channel.
French security forces have been authorized to stop the small boats at sea, but only before they've collected their migrants, according to official confirmation.
French authorities have rarely acted to prevent the overcrowded boats leaving the shoreline because it is considered too great a danger to both personnel and civilians.
"It is crucial that we implement these tactics this month... We have no effective deterrent in the Channel waters."
Currently, a French maritime police spokesperson states personnel will start taking action at sea, with the objective of safeguarding lives.
Significantly, the official ruled out the use of nets to stop boats, which had earlier been reported as a potential technique to snarl the engines of the boats.
The decision to intervene at all is a major advancement, coming after a brief shift towards a more aggressive strategy this warmer season, which ceased when the former government official left government.
That was highlighted in the summer month, in the run-up to a summit between the UK leader and French president, when French police were observed wading into the sea to damage the hulls of a vessel.
Currently French authorities will once more be allowed to stop boats prior to they collect asylum-seeking passengers from the coastal areas of France's north coast, however it's uncertain how the vessels will be stopped.
Powerful gusts are currently delaying the start of intervention operations and the human trafficking gangs will be seeking ways to adjust to avoid interception, as they have frequently done in the past.
The Home Office and the Prime Minister's office have been contacted for response.
